Dr. Bill Releford, DPM
Dr. Bill Releford, is a distinguished podiatric surgeon specializing in amputation prevention and limb preservation in high-risk populations, both domestically and internationally. With over 36 years of experience, Dr. Bill Releford has dedicated his career to addressing health disparities and improving outcomes for vulnerable communities.
His impact extends far beyond the United States. Dr. Releford has led and participated in healthcare projects across East and West Africa, Central America, South America, and the South Pacific Islands—bringing advanced limb preservation techniques and community health strategies to regions most in need.
As the owner of Bloom Ranch of Acton—the largest Black-owned farm in Los Angeles County—Dr. Releford has created a unique bridge between medicine, agriculture, and community empowerment. He is the founder of the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program, which has screened over 30,000 men in Black-owned barbershops nationwide, and the author of Five Colors a Day to Better Health, a book that champions the philosophy that “your plate should look like a flower, bursting with color.”
Local Food as Medicine
From Farm to Clinic.
Dr. Releford’s commitment to health equity is embodied in his innovative “food as medicine” program. At Bloom Ranch, he cultivates a diverse array of culturally relevant, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables. These are not only distributed to local families and community partners, but are also provided directly to patients at the Releford Foot and Ankle Institute as part of their clinical care.
This hands-on approach demonstrates the power of local food to prevent disease, accelerate healing, and empower individuals to take control of their nutritional destiny.
A National Model for Food as Medicine
Dr. Releford’s long-term vision is to establish Bloom Ranch as a national model for integrating agriculture and healthcare. He believes that local farmers and healthcare providers must collaborate to address chronic disease, food insecurity, and health inequities at their roots.
By demonstrating how farms can partner with clinics, hospitals, and community organizations, Dr. Releford aims to inspire a movement where “food as medicine” becomes the standard of care—improving health outcomes and building resilient, thriving communities across the country.
